The Idadiyeh

With the implementation of the educational reforms, in the second half of the XIX century, rüşdiyes, idadiyehes and ıslahhânes were opened on territory of Skopje. By the end of the XIX century, out of the total 619 rüşdiyes throughout Devlet, 159 were in Rumelia (on our territory). Nineteen (9 male and one female) in Skopje, and 7 in Bitola. Around 1885 idadiyehes were opened in Skopje and in Bitola. According to Salih Asim, the mayor of Skopje, the Skopje idadiyeh was built by Hafiz Mehmed Pasha. In this idadiyeh, the education lasted for 8 years (even though not stated, it is probable that the four years education in the rüşdiyes were included in this number) and students of all religions could attend.
