The Ottoman profane architecture in Skopje charmed with its beauty and diversity. During the Ottoman era, various buildings of profan character were built in Skopje, such as: lodgings, hammams, bedesten, clock tower, madrassas, imarets, fountains, and other buildings. Many of these buildings have failed to survive the onslaught of natural and human brutality. Many of the buildings that have survived to this day, are of modified functionality, but remain as a testament to the magnificence and architectural achievements of the Ottoman era. Today, the memory of the Ottoman period remains preserved in the location and the appearance of the buildings that lost their original purpose or completely faded due to neglect and destruction.
Careful examination of the Ottoman concept and understanding of the authentic significance of the buildings can serve as a guide for favorable development in preservation of the Ottoman real estate cultural heritage in Skopje.
