The Old-new Hammam

This hammam was located just under the plateau of the Sultan Murat Mosque, on its south side. With implementation of the new urban plan the University of Skopje was built in the immediate vicinity of the hammam after the earthquake.
The builder of the hammam, whose waqf it belonged to, as well as the year of construction remain unknown. It is assumed that it was built between the XV and XVI centuries.
The Old-new Hammam or the Eski-Yeni Hamam was a single hammam. In 1963, most of the hammam – the changing room, was destroyed by the strong earthquake. The following year, the City Baths Administration built a small building on the same location, serving the same purpose in order to continue the hammam’s function. In 1973, due to being "unrentable", the hammam was closed and finally stopped working. Today, only the part with the bathing rooms, and the space for the tank and the fireplace, have been preserved.
