The Vilayet Konak (Ukjumat)

The Vilayet Konak was built in the late XIX century and housed the highest Vilayet authorities after the relocation of the Kosovo Vilayet headquarters from Pristina to Skopje in 1888, up until 1912. The building has a rectangular base and consists of a ground floor and first floor. It was built in the northern part of the bazaar, next to the Mustafa Pasha’s Mosque. At the time, the printing office of the art-craft school "Islahana" was brought at the Vilayet of Kosovo and relocated in specially arranged premises of the lodge. Later, the Financial Directorate was placed there too. The building was severely damaged in the 1963 earthquake, however it was rebuilt and is now used for business purposes. The building is inspired by the Islamic architecture, but with noticeable Western European influences.
