The Military Hospital

The oldest military hospital in Skopje was built in 1844. Forty years later, in 1884, a hospital which had a bed capacity of 150 patients was built and later expanded. In 1896 there were 11 medics in this hospital. After 1912, the building continued to be used as a hospital, also known as the Kizilaj, meaning the Red Crescent. The hospital was located near todays Hotel Continental and the former Skopje Fair complex. The building consisted of a ground floor and a floor, and was built in the oriental style with Western European architectural influences, primarily from the Baroque, Classicism and Louis XIV style.
