Karli Zade’s Medres

This medres was built in 1495 along with the Burmali mosque by a certain Mehmed-bey who came from a very influential family Karli-zâd, also known as the Tocco family. The waqf for this mosque, which would contain detailed information on the founder, has been lost. At one time, besides the Burmali mosque, there were other accompanying buildings. There is data insinuating that Karli’s medres was one of the most famous medreses in Skopje. Certain photographs show that the medres did not exist in the XIX and XX centuries, and the Burmali mosque was demolished in 1925.
